  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm concerns.
  • Severe anxiety, depression, panic, or emotional distress.
  • Hallucinations, paranoia, or disorganized behavior.
  • Substance-use related crisis or relapse concerns.
  • Welfare checks involving behavioral-health needs.
  • Frequent callers who may benefit from coordinated follow-up.

If weapons, violence, or a medical emergency is involved, call 911.

    What to Expect

  • We will focus first on safety and stabilization.
  • We will identify options and connect you to local services.

When appropriate, we will coordinate follow-up support.

What is the Mental Health Co-Responder Unit?

A collaborative response that pairs a specially trained Yuma Police officer with a behavioral-health professional and/or firefighter-paramedic to help residents in crisis.

Yuma Fire Department (YFD)-Community Resource Paramedic

YFD provides specialized, diversified care by partnering a Community Resource Paramedic with a YPD Law Enforcement officer. This team provides care to citizens in Mental Health Crisis, including scene response and connects citizens with necessary services. YFD often encounters patients in need of more services than what can be provided on the medical scene.  The Community Resource Paramedic has the ability to follow-up on at risk patients identified by field units via referral process, and connects them with services such as in home healthcare, hospice, mental health and adult protective service matters.

    We can assist with:

    Welfare checks with behavioral-health concerns.

Suicidal ideation, emotional distress, or severe anxiety.

Substance-use related crises and relapse concerns.

Connecting individuals to outpatient care and support services.

This service is accessed through dispatch. Ask for the Co-Responder Unit when you call.
