This online portal will assist you with requesting the following records:

• Case Reports
• Accident Reports
• Calls For Service
• Background Checks
• 911 Recordings
• Digital Media
• Photos

During this process, you will be asked to specify your involvement with the record you are seeking.  Media members are encouraged to select "other" and describe your media affiliation in the field provided so your request can be accurately tracked and processed. 

To reduce Digital Media processing time please be very specific about the video you want. Doing so will reduce the cost to you.  Per statute, YPD charges for the “cost of reviewing, transmitting, making a copy of and, as necessary, redacting the video recording”.  This process generally takes over twice the time of the actual video. For example, one hour of video generally requires 2.5 hours of processing, which would result in a $115 charge. 

All requests for digital media will require a $46 deposit, except for verifiable government agencies or victims (ARS §39-127).

Once a public records request is successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email.

While the Records Division strives to fulfill records requests as soon as possible, some requests may take longer than others to process based on complexity, size, and nature of the records sought.  Each request is processed in the order in which it is received.

If the item you are seeking is not listed on the portal, contact the Records Division in person or by phone during regular business hours. 

COSTS

The below fee schedule reflects YPD Agency fees by report type.  For each report type, there will also be a LexisNexis processing fee of $9. For example, if a person makes a request for a case report, 911 Recording, and Photos for the same case, the processing fee will be $27 in addition to the YPD agency fees.

EXEMPTIONS

VICTIMS - If you are a victim of a crime, your first request for any report type is free to you or your legal representation (ARS §39-127).  No agency fee will be charged, and no processing fee will be charged.

GOVERNMENT AGENCY - If you are a verifiable governmental agency there will be no agency fee or processing fee.

INVOLVED PARTY - If you or your business/agency are somehow involved in the report (contact, witness, suspect, etc.) the $9 processing fee is waived.  You will be charged only for the agency fee.

CONTRACTORS - If you are a contractor for a Federal, State, or City agency conducting background requests, the agency fee will be waived.  You will be charged the processing fee.

By using LexisNexis, YPD requests are generally fulfilled on average within three business days, unless the request requires a special approval process.

Requests can also be made in person, using the kiosk in the lobby.

OTHER REQUEST OPTIONS

If you do not want to use LexisNexis you can submit your request via USPS mail, in person, or by emailing YPDFOIArequests@yumaaz.gov. If you do not already meet one of the exemptions, you will not have to pay the processing fee.  You will only be charged the YPD Agency fee. However, by not using LexisNexis the request may take a longer amount of time to process.
