City Of Yuma, AZ
HOME MenuMeter Services
The Meter Services group is responsible for residential and commercial meter reading, construction (roving) meter reading, and the utilities warehouse and meter shop.
Meters
All residential and commercial water meters are read and billed monthly, along with any applicable sewer and sanitation charges. While a few meters are still read manually, most are equipped with radio transmitters and are read electronically using either an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which enables near real-time remote data collection. Water usage is measured in cubic feet, and bills are calculated and displayed in hundred cubic feet (CCF). Each bill shows the current usage alongside previous usage for easy comparison.
Meter Services staff are required to complete ongoing safety and educational training to maintain Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) operator certifications and to support their continued professional development.
In 2023, the City began a six-year transition from AMR to AMI technology. AMI meters transmit water usage data wirelessly several times a day, allowing customers to monitor their usage through the EyeOnWater app or website. This platform enables users to view hourly, daily, and weekly trends, set up custom leak or high-use alerts, and receive notifications via email or text. These tools empower customers to detect leaks early, track irrigation habits, and take action before receiving a high bill.
Construction Meters
Construction (roving) meters are read according to a planned reading schedule, which is given to the customer at the time of sign-up. Meters are to be taken to the City of Yuma Thomas F. Allt Utilities Complex located at 270 W. 13th Street, Yuma, Az. on the dates and times indicated on the schedule. Failure to do so results in a fee charged to the account.
Utilities Warehouse and Meter Shop
Meter Services manages the Utilities Warehouse where parts and materials are inventoried and issued out. There is also a meter shop where meters are stamped, tested and issued out, along with maintaining hydrant meters for construction and taking hydrant meter reads.
