The City of Yuma Laboratory performs routine monitoring of drinking water to verify water quality and compliance with federal and state regulations. Selected monitoring summaries and laboratory reports are provided below.

Total Coliform Bacteria

The City of Yuma conducts monthly monitoring for Total Coliform bacteria, collecting over 100 samples from locations throughout the City's water distribution system. This monitoring helps verify the integrity of the distribution system and ensure the continued safety of the drinking water supply.

Under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), a maximum of 5% of samples may be positive for Total Coliform in any given month. A sample that is negative for Total Coliform, is also considered negative for E. coli. The City drinking water system is operated and monitored in full compliance with SDWA requirements.

For produce and agricultural operations: If your customers or regulatory agencies require verification of water potability for contractual purposes, such as compliance with the Leafy Green Products Handler Marketing Agreement (LGMA), your facilities are responsible for any additional sampling and analysis beyond what is routinely conducted by the City of Yuma.

Annual Inorganic Chemical Analysis Report

Each year, we test our drinking water for inorganic contaminants to ensure compliance with the SDWA. These contaminants include substances such as salts and metals that may originate from natural sources or human activities such as stormwater runoff, agriculture, mining, and wastewater discharges.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishes Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for these substances under SDWA to protect public health. Regular monitoring and treatment help ensure the water remains safe for consumption over a lifetime. Samples for inorganic analysis are collected each January, with results typically received by mid-March.

Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report)

The City of Yuma’s publishes an annual Water Quality Report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), which summarizes drinking water quality and monitoring results for the previous calendar year. To view current and past reports, visit the Water Quality Report page.
