LED (Light Emitting Diode) streetlights offer long life, cost savings, and future added functions. LEDs offer nearly 100,000 hours of life, 3-4 times longer than HPS (High Pressure Sodium). The cost savings is nearly 60% and there are some cities claiming up to a 78% cost savings. Future capabilities to monitor and control streetlights are available through an LED conversion project. Public Works conducted a survey from September to December, 2016. Most residents expressed positive feedback.
