HOME MenuPublic Comments
Public hearings give applicants, residents and other interested parties the opportunity to provide input about pending development proposals and planning activities.
Planning Commission agendas indicate if a public hearing is required or planned for an item.
The Planning Commission has final approval on some items, but on others it forwards a recommendation to the City Council to take final action. Preliminary Plats and Conditional Use Permits do not require City Council action. The Planning Commission action on these items is considered final unless appealed to City Council.
The Hearing Officer decides, among other things, if requests for a deviation from the development standards, known as Variances, meet the criteria for approval as set forth in the City of Yuma Zoning Code. Read more about the Hearing Officer here.
Share Your Comments
The City of Yuma welcomes resident and public feedback about development proposals. Share your thoughts on applicable items during the public hearing at a meeting, or via email.
Once the public hearing is closed, a decision will be made on the item. Potential outcomes include decisions to
- Approve an item
- Approve an item with conditions
- Deny an item
- Continue an item
Comments received 14 days prior to the hearing will be included in the staff report to the Commission or Hearing Officer. Comments received after that date for both the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Hearing officer, will be presented as a separate document, known as a Yellow Sheet. Comments for cases going before the Planning & Zoning Commission must be received prior to 12p.m. on the day of the meeting. Comments for cases going before the Hearing Officer must be received by 4p.m. the day before the meeting.
