City Of Yuma, AZ
HOME MenuLong Range Planning
The Long Range Planning staff is responsible for administering the City of Yuma’s General Plan, managing annexation requests, and completing certain types of development agreements. Staff also initiates and manages updates to the City’s facility plans. In addition, they are responsible for projecting future growth and proposing updates to the various plans that influence and shape that growth.
Although ideas and proposed updates to these plans are continually evolving, it is ultimately the responsibility of the City Council—and, in the case of the General Plan, the citizens of Yuma—to formally adopt them. The General Plan is placed on the ballot and presented to voters every 10 years as part of the required decennial update.
The Decennial Update of the General Plan was adopted by voters on November 8, 2022. The General Plan is a comprehensive document that provides guidance for the social, economic, environmental, and overall physical development of the City of Yuma. It consists of a series of interlinked chapters that address state-required elements and subjects. Each chapter also includes policies and objectives that outline strategies for achieving future development goals.
