Current Adopted Building Codes

The City of Yuma has adopted the 2024 IBC, 2024 IRC, 2024 IEBC, and 2024 IPMC building codes, which became effective on November 3, 2025. Building permits that were already submitted or issued prior to this date are unaffected by the updates. A transitional period will run through January 31, 2026, during which applicants may choose to use either the 2018 or 2024 building codes for new permit applications. Beginning February 1, 2026, use of the 2024 building codes will be mandatory for all new permit applications.

Building and Residential Advisory Boards

The Department of Building Safety also oversees two Advisory Boards. The Building Advisory Board and the Residential Advisory and Appeals Board are of a technical nature and require one or more members to have specific technical expertise. The Boards serve as Advisory and Appeals Boards to the Building Safety Division and to the Community. In order to be considered for a board or commission, an application must be filed in the City Clerk's Office.
