Misconduct involving weapons, drive by shooting

Yuma, Ariz. - At approximately 11:19 p.m. on May 10, the Yuma Police Department responded to the area of the 3500 block W. 27th Lane in reference to gunshots heard in the area. Within the next 45 minutes, additional gun shots were heard at Avenue B and 24th Street, in the 3000 block of West 17th Place, and in the 2400 block South 30th Drive.  Police patrolled the area and heard more gun shots fired.

An officer later heard more shots fired and observed an SUV fleeing the area of 28th Street and Avenue B.  The officers attempted to catch the vehicle, which eventually stopped at the intersection of 26th Street and 33rd Drive, where the suspect was taken into custody after a high-risk vehicle stop.

Due to the multiple reports of shots fired prior to the high-risk traffic stop, YPD asks residents in the area check their homes, walls in and near their homes and their cars for signs of damage from being shot.  If any damage is found, please call the police department's Dispatch Center (928) 783-4421.

The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this case to please call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
