YPD: Operating unmanned model aircraft near airport is illegal

With the MCAS Yuma Air Show scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the Yuma Police Department reminds citizens that it is dangerous and illegal to fly model or unmanned aircraft (drones) in areas where they may pose a hazard to other manned aircraft, particularly in the vicinity around Yuma International Airport.

With the low-flying aircraft demonstrations scheduled for the air show, operating a model or unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of the airport is especially dangerous.

In addition to causing a significant danger to pilots and spectators, operation of model or unmanned aircraft in the area is a violation of Federal Aviation Administration regulations as well as Arizona Revised Statute 13-3729.
