Fourth of July show moving, becoming a drive-up event
July 4 fireworks at the PAAC

Finding a way to celebrate our nation’s independence while maintaining safe social distancing, the City of Yuma is changing its fireworks show to a drive-up event and moving the location.

The 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will take place starting after sundown July 4 at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex, 1700 E. 8th St. (between Pacific Avenue and Castle Dome Avenue, north of the Yuma Palms shopping center).

The event is a drive-up event, designed for visitors to enjoy from within their own vehicles. A 20-minute fireworks display will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m.

“The PAAC is ideal because of the large amount of open space around it,” noted Deputy City Administrator Jay Simonton, the interim director of Parks and Recreation. “We imagine a number of Yumans will want to grab some takeout from their favorite local restaurant, then find a parking space in any of the surrounding areas from downtown to the Yuma Palms area and enjoy the fireworks.”

The City has held fireworks in recent years at the Ray Kroc Complex and Desert Sun Stadium. However, with tall trees in the accompanying parking lot and residential neighborhoods nearby, City staff believed the PAAC would be more convenient for a drive-up event.

The City thanks sponsors for this event: Hyundai of Yuma, Kia of Yuma, Genesis of Yuma, Lifted Yuma Trucks, Yuma International Airport, 95.1 KTTI, Mix 100.9, and Sun Graphics.
