Fair Housing Festival part of health and resource event

The annual Fair Housing Festival, an opportunity to learn about housing resources and fair housing rights from a number of experienced and informed participants, will continue its recent history of partnerships with other events this year.

Along with the first Family Resource Health Fair, the festival will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Fourth Avenue Junior High School, 450 S. 4th Ave.

Area housing agencies will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information on resources and programs available to help obtain and maintain housing. Many will also have games and small giveaways for visitors.

The Family Resource Health Fair will feature age-appropriate preventive health screenings and nutrition information. Approximately 30 social service agencies are expected to participate. Visitors are invited to learn about the services they provide, some of which includes housing services, homeownership, foreclosure prevention, landlord-tenant issues, fair housing law, primary medical care, preventive care, women’s health, behavioral health, supplemental nutrition assistance programs, and more.

The health screenings include cholesterol checks, dental varnish, eye exams, HIV testing, and tests for blood pressure, glucose, body mass index, and more.

The first Family Resource Health Fair and 9th annual Yuma Housing Festival is co-sponsored by Community Legal Services, Western Arizona Council of Governments, Housing Authority City of Yuma, the Southwest Fair Housing Council, Sunset Community Health Center, Arizona at Work, La Campesina FM 104.5, the City of Yuma and Yuma County.
