Downtown Main Street gears up for Medjool Date Festival Saturday

Delicious food, live chef demonstrations, live music, craft vendors and community performances all come together to make this year’s Medjool Date Festival the biggest one yet. City of Yuma Heritage Festivals invites you to attend.

With this year’s theme, “a tasty celebration,” the Medjool Date Festival will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 on Main Street in Historic Downtown Yuma.

“This year’s Date Festival is shaping up to be our biggest and best yet,” said Marketing Specialist Carrie Ring.

Noting Heritage Festivals’ emphasis this year on revamping downtown events with fresh ideas, Ring added: “We are focusing on quality vendors, the experience patrons will have, engaging community performances, local celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, and entertaining main stage live music.”

A main stage, located in front of the fountain at 3rd Street and Main, will feature several community performances and a live concert by Tommy and the Drifters in the afternoon.

A cooking demo stage will be located in front of the Yuma Art Center. Local chefs will conduct cooking demonstrations including ways to use tasty Medjool dates.

The Wow Factor Kids Zone will be located in the 300 block of Main Street, hosting fun activities for youth.

Lutes Casino and Fort Yuma Rotary Club will host a beer garden in front of Lutes.

Vendors featuring locally grown dates and unique arts and crafts will line the middle blocks of Main Street.

“We’re hoping to be ‘date festive’ this year and provide visitors with a tasty celebration everyone will keep talking about,” said Heritage Festival Coordinator Joanne Fiser.

The 2019 Medjool Date Festival is sponsored by: Naked Dates, Southwest Medjools LLC, Martha’s Garden, Imperial Date Gardens Inc., Berryman Farms, Brocket Farms, A Pop Above Kettle Corn, Cricket Wireless, No Hassle Wireless, Lutes Casino, Tronix Sound, Z93 Monster Media Yuma, El Dorado Broadcasters, Power 98, La Campesina, Print Zoom, Imaginary Friends, and B&E Services.
