The next installment of the popular and frequently sold-out dinner theater series will feature “Epic Proportions,” Feb. 12-16, 2020 inside the Yuma Art Center, 254 S. Main St.
Written by Larry Coen and David Crane, “Epic Proportions” tells the 1930s-era story of brothers Benny and Phil, who go to the Arizona desert to work as extras in the Biblical epic film Exeunt Omnes, directed by the mysteriously reclusive D.W. DeWitt.
“The 2020 run will mark our tenth anniversary of dinner theater inside the Yuma Art Center galleries,” said Arts and Culture Program Manager Lindsay Benacka. “Having sold out runs for consecutive years, we are so thankful to have a community that supports this incredible program. We’re still in early production meetings, but hope to have several special highlights to celebrate a decade of dinner theatre.”
Having been awarded a competitive theater fellowship for a third consecutive year, Ann Wilkinson returns to direct. Wilkinson directed the 2019 and 2018 sold-out dinner theater productions of “Almost, Maine,” and “The Games Afoot.” Wilkinson has worked in the entertainment industry since 1978, starting out as an actress and then co-owning an independent casting company in Los Angeles. To date, Wilkinson remains active in the film community, serves on the Arizona-Utah Board of the Screen Actors Guild, and is currently working at Arizona Western College.
“One of the great things about this program is that it is directed by a local theater practitioner and also features local talent on stage who come from very diverse artistic backgrounds,” Benacka said. “The casting call is open to the entire community and our theater fellow, Wilkinson, is great at working with both seasoned actors and individuals who have never stepped foot on stage before.”
The cast for “Epic Proportions” will feature one woman and three men, plus several additional characters and extras. No prepared materials or headshots needed; those auditioning can come as they are.
Those interested in auditioning and being part of the cast must be available for evening rehearsals on weekdays November through February.
