A weekly list of City projects or encroachment permits issued by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.

City Projects

16th Street, Avenue B to Avenue C

Traffic control is in place on 16th Street between avenues B and C. A contractor working for the city will make utility and roadway improvements this winter, requiring intermittent lane closures. A minimum of one lane will be maintained in each direction. The public is encouraged to seek alternate routes during construction.

 

Avenue 3E, 32nd Street to 40th Street

The right turn lane from 32nd St onto Avenue 3E southbound will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Crews may be working on the two traffic signals for the MCAS gate entrances during the next week. In addition, Yuma County will be replacing the delineators (vertical plastic tubes) on Tuesday Jan. 14.

 

1st Avenue reconstruction project

The City is reconstructing 1st Avenue between 16th Street and Orange Avenue, including improvements to underground water/sewer infrastructure, to sidewalks and driveways, and to surface pavement. 1st Avenue is currently closed between 6th Street and 8th Street and is open between 8th Street and 9th Street to local traffic only. Paving is scheduled and will be followed by work on utility access in the street. Use Orange Avenue to detour.

 

10th Avenue, 1st Street to 3rd Street

10th Avenue will be closed to all traffic from 1st Street through the intersection with Court Street, and closed to through traffic between 1st Street and 3rd Street for a water line replacement project. Through mid-January, the intersection of 3rd Street and 10th Avenue will be closed. Detour using 4th Street or Court Street.

 

City street maintenance

City street maintenance operations for the week of Jan. 13-17 will take place in the following areas:

 

Crack Seal Operations

28th Street from Avenue 9E to Avenue 10E

Catalina Drive from 4th Avenue to 8th Avenue

3rd Avenue from 14th Street to 8th Street

 

Concrete sidewalk repairs

Falls Ranch subdivision

887 S. 7TH Avenue – sidewalk

 

Pavement Marking Operations

Thermoplastic application to the intersection of Palo Verde and Pacific Avenue

 

 

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

 

8th Street, Avenue C to Avenue D (Yuma County)

Yuma County is reconstructing and widening 8th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D. The work includes widening the roadway to a 5-lane section with sidewalks, streetlights and drainage improvements. Construction of the north half of the roadway continues; upon completion, traffic will shift to the new lanes and reconstruction of the existing roadway will take place. Access will be maintained to local homes and businesses. Currently, some side street access is limited. Completion of the collaborative project is anticipated this winter.

 

Rio Vista/Yuma Palms area (DPE)

A private contractor will be making small pavement patches in the Rio Vista Commerce Center, northwest of the Yuma Palms area, to repair pavement that was temporarily disrupted for water line repairs. Work will take place Jan. 13-17, with intermittent traffic control and spot closures during that week.

 

24th Street, 18th Avenue to 19th Drive (SW Gas)

Southwest Gas is working on restoration from gas line service project that will require lane shifts between 18th Avenue and 19th Drive.

 

Downtown gas line replacements (SW Gas)

Gas line replacement work will require detours as posted in the following downtown locations:

•          Madison Avenue between 1st and Giss Parkway.

•          Court Street and 4th Avenue.

•          2nd Street between Madison Avenue and 1st Avenue (night work).

•          Madison Avenue between 2nd Street and City Plaza (night work).

•          1st Street and 4th Avenue.

 

25th-28th streets, Virginia Drive area (SW Gas)

Southwest Gas contractors are working on restoration from replacement of main lines project in the areas between 4th Avenue and 1st Avenue and between 24th Street and 28th Street. Affected streets will include 25th Street, Virginia Drive, 27th Street, 28th Street, Hacienda Drive, and the alley between Maple and Hacienda.

 

Avenue B at 8th Street (Century Link)

Communication lines maintenance will require a lane closure on Avenue B and 8th Street. Lanes will be narrowed and speed limit reduced.

 

Avenue A, County 12th Street and 36th Street (Spectrum)

Telephone cable maintenance will require narrow lanes and partial lane closures on Avenue A between County 12th Street (equivalent of City 40th Street) and 36th Street. Lanes will be narrowed and speed limit reduced.

 

Gila Ridge Road, Avenue 3E (Century Link)

Telephone cable maintenance will require narrow lanes and partial lane closures on Gila Ridge Road. Speed limit will be reduced.

 

8th Street at 6th Avenue (SW Gas)

Southwest Gas’ gas line project on 8th Street at 6th Avenue will cause lane shifts. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of February.
