City of Yuma Road Report, Feb. 6

A weekly list of City projects or encroachment permits issued by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.

City Projects

16th Street, Avenue B to Avenue C

Work continues on 16th Street between avenues B and C. A contractor working for the city is conducting utility access adjustments in the eastbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction in the work zones. Work zones are moving from east to west in isolated areas.


1st Avenue reconstruction project

The City is reconstructing 1st Avenue between 16th Street and Orange Avenue, including improvements to underground water/sewer infrastructure, to sidewalks and driveways, and to surface pavement. 1st Avenue is currently closed between Orange Avenue/4th Street and 6th Street and is "local traffic only" between 6th and 7th streets.

Feb. 12-14, the intersection of 1st Avenue and 10th Street will be closed in all directions to complete utility work in that area. Detours for business access to the east of 1st Avenue will be through Wellington Street, or using 12th Street to Arizona Avenue/Walnut Avenue. Most through traffic will be routed via 2nd Avenue between 9th Street and 11th Street.


Avenue 3E, 32nd Street 

On Feb. 11, a contractor will be installing traffic detectors at the Avenue 3E and 32nd Street intersection. During this time, left turns from northbound Avenue 3E onto westbound Avenue 3E may be restricted. Northbound traffic on Avenue 3E traveling toward the airport are advised to use an alternate route. Work is expected to be completed and normal traffic restored by 4 p.m.

Avenue C from 24th Street to 32nd Street

21st Drive between 32nd Street and 25th Street


Thermo patch/pothole maintenance

LaMesa Park subdivision: Olivia Avenue to Mary Avenue and 22nd Street to Morrison Avenue

28th Drive and 31st Place

Sunrise Lane from Windsor to its eastern end


Concrete sidewalk repairs

20th Street from Avenue C to Avenue D



Other utility projects and encroachment permits

8th Street, Avenue C to Avenue D (Yuma County)

Yuma County is reconstructing and widening 8th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D. The work includes widening the roadway to a 5-lane section with sidewalks, streetlights and drainage improvements.

On Feb. 11-13, the south side of 8th Street will be closed between avenues C and D to complete the new pavement on the eastbound lanes. All side streets to the south of 8th street will be closed and access will be provided through Avenue C and 12th Street.

Completion of the collaborative project is anticipated this winter.


Pacific Avenue, 24th Street to Gila Ridge (Yuma County)

Yuma County will be conducting guardrail repair that will require lane shifts and reduced speed of 25 mph.


4th Avenue, 6th to 7th streets

A contractor will install conduit for street lights on 4th Avenue between 6th and 7th streets, requiring lane shifts on 4th Avenue. This project is anticipated to complete by end of February.


Castle Dome at 12th Street (Century Link)

Communication lines maintenance will require lane shifts and speed will be reduced on Castle Dome and 12th Street. Project is expected to be completed by the end of April.
