A weekly list of City projects or encroachment permits issued by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.
Castle Dome Avenue at 8th Street/Giss Parkway
Beginning Monday, Feb. 20, the intersection of Castle Dome Avenue with 8th Street (which becomes Giss Parkway to the west) will be closed for reconstruction. This three-month project will convert the existing intersection into a roundabout, create access to future anticipated private development to the north and prepare the intersection for eventual improvements to 8th Street as outlined in the City’s Capital Improvement Program. A water line relocation is also part of this project. Traffic will be detoured using Rio Vista Drive between 7th Street and 9th Street.
16th Street, Avenue B to Avenue C
Traffic control has been temporarily suspended in this project zone and no restrictions are currently in place. Work may resume Feb. 24 on 16th Street between avenues B and C, where a contractor working for the city is conducting roadway improvements. Upon resumption, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in the work zones.
1st Avenue reconstruction project
The City is reconstructing 1st Avenue between 16th Street and Orange Avenue, including improvements to underground water/sewer infrastructure, to sidewalks and driveways, and to surface pavement. 1st Avenue is currently closed between Orange Avenue/4th Street and 6th Street and is "local traffic only" between 6th and 7th streets.

City Street Maintenance operations for week of Feb. 18-21 will take place in the following areas:

21st Drive between 28th and 32nd streets
Thermo Patch / Pothole Maintenance
28th Drive and 31st Place storm sewer line repairs
Concrete sidewalk repairs
20th Street from Avenue C to Avenue D
Other utility projects and encroachment permits
8th Street, Avenue C to Avenue D (Yuma County)
Yuma County is reconstructing and widening 8th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D. The work includes widening the roadway to a 5-lane section with sidewalks, streetlights and drainage improvements.
On Feb. 11-13, the south side of 8th Street will be closed between avenues C and D to complete the new pavement on the eastbound lanes. All side streets to the south of 8th street will be closed and access will be provided through Avenue C and 12th Street.
Completion of the collaborative project is anticipated this winter.
4th Avenue at Catalina (Century Link)
Communication lines maintenance will require lane shifts on 4th Avenue and Catalina Drive. Lanes will be narrowed and speed limit reduced. This is part of a larger 60-day project that will wrap up in early March.
Pacific Avenue, 24th Street to Gila Ridge (Yuma County)
Yuma County will be conducting guardrail repair that will require lane shifts and reduced speed of 25 mph.
4th Avenue, 6th to 7th streets
A contractor will install conduit for street lights on 4th Avenue between 6th and 7th streets, requiring lane shifts on 4th Avenue. This project is anticipated to complete by end of February.
Castle Dome at 12th Street (Century Link)
Communication lines maintenance will require lane shifts and speed will be reduced on Castle Dome and 12th Street. Project is expected to be completed by the end of April.
3½E, 40th Street (Century Link)
Century Link will conduct maintenance on existing communication lines. The project will require lane shifts and a reduced speed limit of 35 mph. Work is anticipated to complete by mid-May.
Avenue B, 24th-32nd streets (Westmoor Electric)
Contractor will be replacing traffic detector loops which will require lane shifts and reduced speed of 35 mph. Project is scheduled to be completed by Feb. 21.
Avenue C between Daisy Street and Crane Street (SW Gas)
From mid-February through the end of March, Southwest Gas contractors will be working on gas lines on Avenue C between Daisy Street and Crane Street. The project will require lane shifts and a reduced speed limit of 25 mph.
Avenue B at 26th Street
On Feb. 20, contractor will be patching potholes during a single-day project that will require lane shifts. Work is anticipated to be completed by Feb. 21.
