16th Street and 4th Avenue

Construction for the 16th Street and 4th Avenue intersection improvement project is under way. The current phase of work reduces 16th Street to one lane of through traffic in each direction. Northbound and southbound lanes on 4th Avenue are restricted to one lane on their respective approaches to the intersection. Right turn restrictions remain in place for large trucks and semitrailers.

The City asks all motorists to plan ahead and to obey the reduced speed limit. Those using residential streets as detour routes are asked to respect the 25 mph speed limit and be attentive for children and pets. While business access will be maintained at all times, those seeking through traffic routes may wish to avoid the construction zone, using roads such as 24th Street, 8th Street or 32nd Street for east-west through traffic, and Arizona Avenue, Avenue A, Pacific Avenue or Avenue B for north-south through traffic.

8th St., Castle Dome - Pacific Ave. (updated)

Castle Dome Avenue, which had been closed between 8th Street and 12th Street, is now reopen to traffic. As ofTuesday, Dec. 27,  8th Street will be fully closed between Castle Dome Avenue and Pacific Avenue, as well as along Pacific Avenue between 8th Street and the Levee Road, for roadway reconstruction associated with the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex (PAAC). The detour for northbound traffic coming from Pacific Avenue is 12th Street, which will be routing traffic west to Castle Dome Avenue. Local traffic will have access to property between 8th and 12th streets off of Pacific Avenue, but will not be able to access the area north of 8th Street. This full closure is the second phase of work near the job site. It is anticipated to be complete in August 2017.

32nd Street, avenues 3E to 8E - ADOT

Currently, slurry seal has been applied to 32nd Street between avenues 3E and 8-1/2E in this ADOT project. Crews are preparing for road striping and additional work. The project is to be completed by the end of January 2017.

Avenue 3E/US 95 (holiday schedule)

Update: During the holidays, construction for the Avenue 3E/US 95 project will be placed on hold from Dec. 22, 2016 through Jan. 4, 2017. All traffic control devices and the concrete barrier wall have been removed from the roadway(s). Both Avenue 3E and US 95 are open to traffic in all directions. Work will resume Jan. 5, 2017.

A nine-month project to widen and improve both US 95 and Avenue 3E is currently under way. The $3.2 million project will widen both roads to five lanes and to include a turn lane. Work will take place on Avenue 3E from north of the Interstate-8 interchange to past the US 95 intersection, as well as on US 95 from about 500 feet west of the Avenue 3E intersection to just past the Araby Road intersection. Both roads are expected to remain open with lane restrictions in place while the project is underway. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes to avoid potential delays. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will maintain access to businesses in the work zone and keep both roadways open during construction. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2017.

16th Street, Ave. C

A project to remove and replace a driveway will require a lane closure along a portion of 16th Street near its intersection with Avenue C. Work is scheduled to begin as early as Dec. 27, and is anticipated to be complete by the end of January, 2017. Road signs will be posted in the area for traffic along 16th Street as they approach the work zone, to guide traffic around the lane closure near the driveway.

24th Street, avenues B-C

The street reconstruction of 24th Street between avenues B and C is under way. Update: The third phase of the project has been completed, and local traffic headed westbound on 24th Street from Avenue B will have access up to to 31st Avenue. The next phase of the 120-day project will begin as early as Dec. 27, and will require a closure on 24th Street from 31st Avenue to Avenue C. Detour routes include 28th Street, 20th Street and 32nd Street.

Avenue 3E, 32nd-40th streets

There will be a lane closure along Avenue 3E for a project that requires crews to access a manhole on the roadway between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Signs will be posted near the area to alert traffic to the lane closure and possible detours. Additionally, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. The 60-day project is anticipated to be completed by mid-January.

U.S. 95 at Fortuna Wash - ADOT

Work is under way on the $9.3 million bridge on U.S. Highway 95 spanning Fortuna Wash northeast of Yuma and is expected to be completed by next winter. The bridge is going in at milepost 34, approximately 12 miles northeast of Yuma and 10 miles south of the turnoff (Imperial Dam Road) to Yuma Proving Ground. Crews are scheduled to work weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Motorists should allow extra travel time as lane restrictions will be in place and flaggers will occasionally need to alternate traffic through the work zone.

West Main Canal, Avenue B - 1st Street

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is administering a project to construct a paved pathway, lighting and rest stops along the West Main Canal. The project will require the closure of the canal banks until this fall. Crews will be working along the north bank of the canal between 1st and 3rd streets, from Avenue A to Avenue B. Work will be done from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays. This project is to be completed near the end of 2016.

Avenue 3E, MCAS-Yuma North Gate

A project to remove existing overhead and an underground conductor for APS will require sidewalk and lane closures along a portion of Avenue 3E, near the MCAS-Yuma North Gate entrance. Flaggers and road signs will be in place to notify of motorists of the reduced 25 mph speed limit near the work zone for both northbound and southbound traffic. Work is to be completed by Jan. 13, 2017.

8th Street, Avenue D

A project to tie in water services for a subdivision will require a full road closure of 8th Street and 12th Street near Avenue D, in two separate phases. During the first phase, a portion of 8th Street will be closed to all traffic. Signs will be posted near the work zone to alert traffic to the full road closure and to direct motorists to use 12th Street as a detour. During the second phase of the project, a similar closure will be in place at 12th Street, and motorists will be directed to detour through 8th Street. Work is scheduled to begin as early as Oct. 26, and will finish at the end of the year.

16th Street, El Paseo Real

Crews will be performing valve maintenance at a location on 16th Street, near El Paseo Real. The project will require a lane closure along 16th Street and a reduced speed limit near the work zone. Signs will be posted to alert traffic to the closed lane and direct them through the area. The project is to be completed by the end of January.

5th Avenue, 5th-7th streets

A project to abandon and replace a gas service line will require a road closure on 5th Avenue between 5th and 7th streets. The sections of 5th, 6th and 7th streets that extend from 4th to 6th avenues will be closed to through traffic as part of the project. Signs will be posted in the area to direct traffic to nearby detours through 4th or 6th avenues, through to either 4th or 8th streets. The project is expected to be completed by the end of January.

I-8 west of 4th Ave. - Caltrans (updated)

Caltrans crews continue to work on the reconstruction of Interstate-8 in Imperial County, west of Yuma, to extend the life expectancy of the pavement from State Route 111 to the border with Arizona. Associated lane closures and detours may cause significant delays. Signage will be posted alerting motorists of the work and associated detours. The segment of work closest to Yuma is located west of SR-186 to the state line where Arizona meets California.

Update: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction from the Agricultural Checkpoint in California, to the state line with Arizona. The westbound off-ramp and on-ramp at Fourth Avenue are closed with detour and signage in place to direct traffic to use Winterhaven Drive. The eastbound off- and on-ramp at SR-186/Algodones Road have reopened. The eastbound off- and on-ramps at Winterhaven Drive are closed, with detour and signage in place to use Fourth Avenue. Over-sized vehicles and farm vehicles wider than 12 feet are prohibited from traveling westbound on I-8 between Stateline Road and the Winterhaven Drive/Fourth Avenue; those vehicles should exit at Giss Parkway.
