Yuma, Ariz. – The City of Yuma Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with the Arizona Game and Fish Department to host the 6th Annual Family Fish Fiesta from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, at the Yuma West Wetlands Park (282 N. 12th Avenue).
Open to Yuma residents of all ages, the Family Fish Fiesta provides a recreational opportunity for residents to try their hand at fishing and catch a fun memory together. Children and adults are not required to possess an Arizona fishing license while participating in this event. However, those planning on continuing to fish in the area after 10 a.m. will need to have a valid license.
In preparation for the 6th Annual Family Fish Fiesta, the pond at the Yuma West Wetlands will be stocked with 500 pounds of catchable-sized catfish, courtesy of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. A limited amount of fishing poles, tackle and bait are available for those who do not have their own equipment.
There will be additional activities, such as the Fish Print Booth where participants can create a colorful fish print to take home.
Be sure to stay for the awards given out to those who catch the biggest and smallest fish of the year toward the end of the event. Awards will be given out in two categories: one for children 12 and under and one for those 13 and older. Winnners will be determined by weighing each fish on a scale.
