The next regular Yuma City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Here are some of the items scheduled to be presented to City Council for consideration:
Housing and Community Development Funding Plans
Council will consider approving the City’s 2026-2030 Consolidated Plan, Annual Action Plan, Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area Plan, and updated Citizen Participation Plan for the use of Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds. These documents outline local housing and community development needs, funding priorities, and projects intended to benefit Yuma residents, particularly low-income households.
Yuma Regional Mental Health Court Agreement
A memorandum of understanding for the Yuma Police Department’s participation in the Yuma Regional Mental Health Court will be presented to City Council for consideration. The program provides an alternative to traditional prosecution and incarceration for justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness. Through the agreement, trained Yuma police officers would coordinate with the Mental Health Court team, serve as a liaison between law enforcement and the Court, and support efforts to improve public safety, reduce repeat offenses, and connect participants with treatment and community resources.
Election Services Agreement with Yuma County
An intergovernmental agreement with Yuma County will be presented to Council for consideration to assist with the coordination and administration of City elections. The agreement would allow the City to participate in consolidated elections with the County and use County voter registration rolls, voting equipment, and tabulation equipment. The agreement also outlines the responsibilities of the City, Yuma County Election Services, and the Yuma County Recorder, and would remain in effect for five years.
Proposition 436: Permanent Base Adjustment
Council will consider adopting an ordinance to place Proposition 436 on the November 3 General Election ballot for voter consideration. The measure would ask voters whether to approve a $30 million Permanent Base Adjustment to the City’s 1979-80 expenditure base, which is used to calculate the City’s state-established expenditure limitation. A Permanent Base Adjustment would not increase taxes, create new fees, or generate new revenue. The City would continue to adopt balanced budgets annually and limit spending to available revenues.
Proposition 437: Nomination Petition Signatures
A proposed City Charter change related to nomination petition signatures will be presented to Council for consideration. If placed on the November 3 ballot, Proposition 437 would ask voters whether to change how the number of required nomination petition signatures is calculated for City elected office. The requirement would remain 3 to 5 percent of ballots cast and would be based on the preceding primary municipal election instead of the preceding general municipal election.
