City of Yuma Road Report, January 8

A weekly summary of City projects or encroachment permits issued by the City of Yuma.

City Projects

32nd Street, Avenue 3E to Arizona Avenue

A contractor for the City is landscaping the center medians along 32nd Street between Avenue 3E and Arizona Avenue. Work will take place in several phases. Currently there is a single lane closure in the Eastbound and Westbound directions on 32nd Street between Avenue 3E and Pacific Avenue.

32nd Street, Catalina Drive to Avenue 8 1/2 E

Beginning January, a contractor for the City will conduct technical borings, including pavement and soil sampling, along 32nd Street between Catalina Drive and Avenue 8 ½ E. Work will require intermittent lane restrictions, and drivers are advised to follow all posted traffic control. Work is expected to be completed by early February.

28th Street and Avenue C

A contractor working for the City will reconstruct the intersection of Avenue C and 28th Street, resulting in a full closure of that intersection. The work will continue with road closures on 28th Street through January 2026 between Avenue C and 45th Avenue, as well as between Avenue C and 33rd Drive.

City Street Maintenance

City Street Maintenance operations for the week of January 11 – January 17 will take place in the following areas.

Street Asphalt Patching:

Rancho Verde Subdivision.

Las Casitas 1 Subdivision.

Concrete Sidewalk Repair:

Tamarack Subdivision Phase 4 & 6.

Streets Crack Seal Repairs:

21st Drive from 24th Street to 32nd Street.

Livingston Ranch Subdivision Phase 2.

Road Grading:

Avenue 4 ½E and 40th Street.

City Wide Striping:

Avenue 10E to Avenue 6E from 24th Street to 48th Street.

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

Avenue B, 8th Street to 12th Street (Private Contractor)

Beginning January 12, crews will conduct sewer work along Avenue B between 8th Street and 12th Street. Lane restrictions will be in place. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is expected to be completed by late February.

24th Avenue (Private Contractor)

Starting January 12, crews will install water and fire lines at the Pecan Grove Housing Complex. Lane restrictions will be in place along 24th Avenue. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is expected to be completed by late January.

4th Avenue, 32nd Street (CenturyLink)

Beginning January 6, CenturyLink crews will access manholes to perform utility work at 4th Avenue and 32nd Street. Work will require road closures with lane restrictions. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones and follow all posted traffic control. Work is expected to be completed by late March.

10th Avenue, 12th Street to 13th Street (Private Contractor)

Beginning January 5, a private contractor will conduct sewer work main along 10th Avenue between 12th Street to 13th Street. Work will require road closure. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by early January.

8th Street, Avenue B (Charter)

Starting January 26, Charter crews will perform utility work on 8th Street heading toward Avenue B, including transferring service from an existing pole to a riser and installing new vaults. Work will require lane restrictions. Please follow all traffic control signs. Work is expected to be completed by late January.

Arizona Avenue, 17th Street to 18th Street (DPE Construction)

Starting January 5, DPE Construction will replace a waterline along Arizona Avenue between 17th Street and 18th Street. Road closures and lane closures will be in place. Please allow extra travel time and follow all traffic control signs. Work is expected to be completed by mid-January.

Routine Maintenance, Tree Trimming, and Survey Work (APS)

APS crews will be conducting routine maintenance, tree trimming, and survey work throughout the year in various locations within the City. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas and follow all posted traffic control.

Avenue 4E, 36th Street to 28th Street (Private Contractor)

Beginning December 2, a private contractor will install a sanitary sewer main and conduct sewer services along Avenue 4E between 36th Street to 28th Street. Work will require road closures with lane restrictions on 32nd Street. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by late May.

5th Street, Avenue A to 13th Avenue (Southwest Gas)

Beginning December 8, Southwest Gas will conduct utility work along 5th street between Avenue A and 13th Avenue. Work will require lane restrictions. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by early January. 

Avenue C, 24th Street to 22nd Lane (Private Contractor)

Beginning December 2, a private contractor will conduct utility work along Avenue C between 24th Street to 22nd Lane on the northbound side of the roadway. Work will require lane restrictions. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by early January. 

Smucker Park Basin project: Avenue A, Parkview to Westridge

(Yuma County)

A contractor working for Yuma County is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin, which will at times affect Avenue A between Parkview Loop and 28th Street. The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue A is closed. Motorists on Avenue A should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park. Phases of work will include lane restrictions on Avenue A and a closure at Westridge. Message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure.

Fiber optic installations (Allo)

Communications line installations are taking place in areas designated for utility easements in numerous and various locations within the City limits and surrounding vicinity. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas.

5th Street, 14th to 16th Avenue (Southwest Gas Corporation)

Starting December 22, Southwest Gas Corporation crews will be replacing has line on 5th Street between 14th Avenue to 16th Avenue. Work will prompt sidewalk closure and lane restrictions. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-February.
