City of Yuma Launches Regional Holiday Food Drive Challenge December 1–19, 2025

Post Date:12/02/2025 12:42 PM

YUMA, Ariz. — The City of Yuma is launching a regional Holiday Food Drive Challenge to support the Yuma Community Food Bank. The challenge runs December 1–19 and includes participation from Yuma County, the City of San Luis, the City of Somerton, and the Town of Wellton.

Each jurisdiction will collect non-perishable food donations and deliver them to the Yuma Community Food Bank. Results will be measured on a per-pound, per-employee basis, creating a friendly competition among local governments while helping increase the total amount of food collected for families across the region.

“This is a fun way for our local jurisdictions to come together for a good cause,” said Deputy City Administrator Jennifer Reichelt. “The Food Bank plays a critical role in supporting families throughout Yuma County, especially during the holidays. A little friendly competition helps us bring in even more.”

The Yuma Community Food Bank continues to serve thousands of households each month and sees increased need during the holiday season. Community members who wish to contribute may drop off non-perishable items at donation boxes located inside municipal facilities throughout Yuma County — including City of Yuma buildings and partner jurisdictions — or donate directly through the Food Bank.

Last month, the City hosted a Frozen Turkey & Ham Drive, collecting more than 700 pounds of holiday food items for the Food Bank. The City hopes the regional challenge will continue that momentum.
