Free fun for the whole family meets greater awareness of water safety practices and drowning prevention at this Saturday’s Water Safety Day, 1 to 6 p.m. at Valley Aquatic Center (4381 W. 18th St.).
Sponsored by the Greater Yuma Water Safety Alliance (GYWSA), Water Safety Day is a chance to enjoy the aquatic center’s pools, water slide and water play area in a festive setting with music and giveaways while gathering safety information and watching demonstrations that can potentially save lives.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to work directly with Yuma families in helping safeguard their most precious treasures, their family,” said Recreation Manager Ann-Jeanette Mosqueda. “We look forward to teaching all family members safer water rescue techniques and how to properly fit life jackets – things that will ensure the whole family is safe around the water this season and beyond.”
The Yuma Fire Department and Parks and Recreation will offer a variety of safety demonstrations such as CPR, lifejacket fittings, swiftwater rescue and “Reach and Throw, Don’t Go,” a water rescue safety practice. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit water safety information and vendor booths ranging from aquatic organizations to pool and fencing contractors.
Raffle prizes include a free ramada rental at a City park, an Arty Party at the Yuma Art Center, a blow-up kayak, a slip and slide family pack, a water balloon family fun pack, a sprinkler family fun pack, a family basket courtesy of El Charro, and one free family pool pass for the June-July season.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase on site.
