The 110‐acre West Wetlands Park is a jewel and beloved by the citizens of Yuma.

The 30 acres of the “lower bench” are restored with native trees and grasses, and an additional 30 acres of the “upper bench” are developed with a lake, picnic ramadas, parking, lighting, and landscaping.

There is a boat launch and boat trailer parking area off of Centennial Beach. A statue memorializing the 1st Iowa Volunteers also known as the Mormon Battalion is found on the walking trails. The Arizona Public Service Solar Demonstration Garden, Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden, and a burrowing owl habitat are also features of the West Wetlands Park.

The West Wetlands Pond and the surrounding lawn area are available for recreational use. The pond is 15 ft deep at the center and is regularly stocked with a variety of game fish by partners, Arizona Game & Fish Department. A fishing license is required and there are special daily limits for the pond.

Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground "Bigger, Better, Safer"

On Sunday, December 28, 2014, the playground that was built entirely by Yuma community members, tragically, was set on fire and destroyed.

The City of Yuma and the community persevered through this tragedy and the playground was rebuilt and re-opened in December of 2015 with a new goal in mind, to make "Castle Park" BIGGER, BETTER, SAFER.

In May of 2018 major strides were made towards fulfilling that goal with the addition of three new features to the playground.

• A zipline with two bays, one of which is ADA accessible, allowing kids of all abilities to experience the thrill of racing along the 66 ft track and enjoy a new adventure in an exciting, safe way.
• A giant TriNet climbing structure, nearly 18ft tall which can support up to 60 kids climbing all at once.
• And a comfort swing which utilizes a unique face-to-face design allowing parents to swing with their small children all while maintaining eye contact and allowing them to interact.

These improvements were made possible by the support and donations of our community. Anyone interested in contributing to the growth and enjoyment of Castle Park can do so through the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, 180 W. 1st St., Suite E. Checks should be made out to the heritage area, with a note in the memo line for the “bigger, better playground.”
