Fire at St. Francis of Assisi Church

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, shortly before 2:00 pm, the Yuma Fire Department responded to the 1800 block of S. 8th Avenue for a report of smoke in a building.

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, shortly before 2:00 pm, the Yuma Fire Department responded to the 1800 block of S. 8th Avenue for a report of smoke in a building. Arriving firefighters found a small fire within a wall adjacent to a furnace at the rectory at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1815 S. 8th Avenue. 

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread any further. There was minimal damage done, and there were no injuries. The fire cause was accidental, and was found to originate from a malfunctioning furnace. Firefighters isolated power to the furnace so the building could remain habitable.
