Aggravated Assault

On Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1340 hours: A detective with the Yuma Police Department performed a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Marcos Medina, age 28 of Yuma. Medina initially pulled over but quickly sped away in his vehicle when the detective approached.
Medina then nearly collided with a second patrol vehicle occupied by two police officers, who were responding to assist the detective with the traffic stop.
Medina fled from officers and lost control of his vehicle in the area of 2nd Avenue and 5th Street. Medina collided with a parked passenger car and a parked motor scooter causing substantial damage to both vehicles. Medina then fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance later. Medina sustained minor injuries and was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. There were no other reported injuries.
Medina remains in the custody of police and will be booked into the Yuma County Jail on several charges including aggravated assault on police, criminal damage, possession of dangerous drugs, aggravated DUI, endangerment, and reckless driving.
