On Tuesday February 21, 2012 just after 2:30 pm a fire was reported at the Quartermaster Depot Historic Park, 201 N. 4th Avenue. Yuma Fire Department personnel arriving at the park were directed to one of the adobe buildings on the Southeast side of the park. Firefighters found heavy smoke in the building and found contents of an office storage room on fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire that had begun to extend into the attic. The fire was otherwise contained to the one room.

The building contains the park’s newest exhibit, dedicated to the Yuma siphon, which was recently opened. The exhibit was not damaged. Firefighters and fire investigators remained on the scene to ensure against flair ups, and determine the cause of the fire. Park officials will be working to reopen the exhibit as soon as possible. All other areas of the Quartermaster Depot remain open and unaffected by the fire.
