Aggravated Assault - 800 Block South 10th Avenue

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 9:24 am, the Yuma Police Department received a report of an armed man that had restrained his elderly mother in their home in the 800 block South 10th Avenue.

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 9:24 am, the Yuma Police Department received a report of an armed man that had restrained his elderly mother in their home in the 800 block South 10th Avenue.

A number of officers responded and secured the area. OC Johnson School was locked down for approximately 10 minutes. Officers with the Hostage Negotiations Team contacted the suspect, 63 year old Robert Hockman, by phone. Hockman agreed to voluntarily come out of his home and was taken into custody.

The elderly mother was located inside and treated by members of the Yuma Fire Department. She was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for a pre-existing medical condition. The firearms located inside the residence were collected for safekeeping.

Hockman was also transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation and the case will be forwarded to the Yuma County Attorney’s Officer for review of aggravated assault per domestic violence.
