New School Zones; 24th Street Surface Work this Weekend; 32nd Street at Canal Bridge

New School Zones

Motorists should be advised that all area public schools will be open for the school year as of Monday, Aug. 16. Two new 15-mph school zones have been added to city streets this year:

  • 3rd Street and Magnolia Avenue
  • Avenue A and 21st Street

Remember, the 15-mph zone begins at the point where the school zone/speed limit sign facing your direction of travel is placed, and ends once your vehicle has completely passed through the marked crosswalk (not where the speed limit sign faces oncoming traffic). Speed limits in school zones are strictly enforced - Yuma Police Department's Project Drive Safe patrols have been focusing on school zones this week.

Avenue 3E and 24th Street

This weekend, pavement milling and surface work will take place on the southern lanes of 24th Street west of Avenue 3E. 24th Street is restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction from Avenue 2½E to Avenue 3E, with traffic redirected along the northern lanes. Avenue 3E remains closed between 24th Street and 32nd Street for widening and resurfacing. Businesses in the general vicinity are open and access is available; please plan ahead to reach your destination.

County 14th Street, Avenue A to Avenue 3E - Yuma County, Thursday Only

On Thursday, Aug. 12, Yuma County Public Works will be doing road maintenance on County 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue 3E, applying a light sanding to the roadway. The road will remain open but motorists should expect delays during the work hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

32nd Street Bridge Over East Main Canal

Westbound 32nd Street is down to one lane of traffic between the Dunes subdivision and 21st Drive as crews relocate a Qwest junction box at the bridge over the East Main Canal. Work is expected to be complete within the next two weeks.

Street Maintenance, Week of Aug. 16

For the week of Aug. 16-20, the City's asphalt maintenance crews will be shifting operations to the following areas:

  • 24th Street from Pacific Av. to 2 ½ E
  • Avenue A from 24th Street to 32nd Street
  • Victoria Meadows
  • Bardeaux Oaks (Grinding and crack sealing)
  • Carver Park area
  • Fire station # 4 area, 16th Street west of Avenue B
  • Motorists should expect lane restrictions and lane closure could occur in these areas.

Avenue 6E Sewer Interceptor at 32nd Street

The intersection of 32nd Street at Avenue 6E has been closed as part of a sewer line interceptor project. During this portion of the project, 32nd Street traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in that section. Avenue 6E turns to and from 32nd Street will be limited to "right in, right out," meaning no left turns.

40th Street Water Transmission Line, Avenue 3E to 6E

40th Street remains closed between Avenue 3-1/2E and Avenue 4E as the water transmission line project progresses; however, 4E is no open to through traffic at this intersection.

16th Street Widening - ADOT Project

Traffic along 16th Street remains restricted to one lane in each direction between Yuma Palms Parkway and Arizona Avenue as work proceeds on both bridges. Please plan ahead to reach your 16th Street destination.

Avenue B to Avenue C, 1st Street to 8th Street Sewer Project - Yuma County

Work is under way on sewer lines in a general area between 1st and 8th streets and avenues B to C. Occasional closures and lane restrictions will take place at varying times during the course of this project.

I-8 Rock Fall Containment at Telegraph Pass - ADOT Project

ADOT's rock fall containment project is shifting traffic from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes, but the net effect will still be the same: one lane each direction on I-8 between just east of Foothills Parkway and Dome Valley. Wide loads are restricted to 12 feet, with the only available detour at this time being SR 85 to I-10 to U.S. 95.
