Yuma, Ariz. - The City of Yuma Arts and Culture Commission is requesting nominations for the 2010 Tribute of the Muses Awards, which will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Yuma Art Center, 254 S. Main St.

The City of Yuma Arts and Culture Commission is requesting nominations for the 2010 Tribute of the Muses Awards, which will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Yuma Art Center, 254 S. Main St.

Nomination forms are being accepted at the Yuma Art Center until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3.

"Yuma is fortunate to have such a large number of dedicated arts supporters and people who are doing great things for the arts," said Rex Ijams, Arts and Culture Program Manager for the City of Yuma. "We hope to receive many nominations this year so we can recognize that fact. This is a great opportunity to nominate someone you know who fits the criteria - and, what a beautiful way to acknowledge these folks and their efforts."

Nominees may be full or part-time artists, art teachers, leaders, supporters, or volunteers in the arts community. They should have a recognized track record as a champion of the arts during their lifetimes through creative contribution, gifts of time, and support.

Past years' winners have been chosen from several arts fields including dance, music, art education and the visual arts.

The name Tribute of the Muses originates from Greek Mythology where the nine daughters of Zeus, called Muses, each possessed a distinct gift among the disciplines of poetry, art, dance, and music and were considered the inspiration for the arts and sciences.

For more information or to request a nomination form, contact the Yuma Art Center at (928) 373-5202 or send an email to Mary Beth Spencer.
