Different Event Highlighted Each Day During National Parks And Recreation Month; Student Banners Mark Occasion

Yuma Parks and Recreation is celebrating National Park and Recreation Month by offering 31 days of exciting events and programs for people of all ages and capabilities. A special Parks and Recreation Month event calendar is full of activities and event ideas; pick up a copy in the City Hall lobby. While at City Hall, visitors will want to view the distinctive banners created especially for Parks and Recreation Month by Cibola High School students.

"The role of Parks and Recreation in our community is that of an essential public service that provides and maintains open space with shade and clean air, opportunities for youth to learn and grow, the promotion of healthy lifestyles as well as clean, secure public spaces for gatherings and celebrations," noted Director of Parks and Recreation Becky Chavez. "We invite all of our friends, families, and neighbors to take part in all that we have to offer."

Desert Sun Tennis Courts Better Than Ever, Ready For Play

Nighttime tennis has returned to Desert Sun Tennis Courts, adjacent to Desert Sun Stadium, Avenue A and Desert Sun Drive and Friendship Park, 34th Place west of Avenue A. Featuring crack-resistant post-tension concrete, eye-friendly court colors and water-saving desert landscaping thanks to the generosity of Pecan Grove Garden Club, the eight refurbished courts and remaining exhibition court are available for play from dawn to 11 p.m. Got a group coming in and want to reserve some courts? Call or stop by Parks and Recreation, 373-5243 or One City Plaza.
