Homicide Suspect Apprehended

Yuma, Arizona - On Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 4:30 AM, Yuma Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block South Madison Avenue regarding a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim of a stabbing who was identified as Julian Kelly, 17 years old of Yuma. He was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed that there was a disturbance that involved both Kelly and Ramon Estrada Jr, 31 years old of Yuma, in the 400 block South Madison Avenue. The fight between the two resulted in Estrada stabbing Kelly in the upper torso area. Estrada fled the scene.

Estrada and Kelly did know each other as a result of their respective girlfriends.

Estrada was identified by police yesterday as the primary suspect in this case. Estrada turned himself in at the Yuma Police Department just after midnight this morning. He was booked into the Yuma County Jail for 2nd degree murder.

Estrada will have an initial appearance in Yuma Justice Court today.
