Limited 3E Traffic to Open Between Gila Ridge, 24th Street

Business Access Maintained in Construction Zones

Residents and motorists are reminded that vehicle access to businesses in City road construction project zones must be maintained. Businesses are open and reachable by vehicle. Though reaching those businesses may require advance planning, a detour and/or a couple extra minutes, motorists are encouraged to continue to visit and patronize businesses in city construction zones.

Avenue 3E, Gila Ridge to 32nd Street

Avenue 3E will open to two-way traffic between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street this Friday, with traffic permitted onto and off of 24th Street as well. 32nd Street for widening and resurfacing. Motorists who frequent 3E should detour using Pacific Avenue, or Araby Road if approaching from the east. Businesses in the general vicinity are open and access is available via 24th Street, Lakin Avenue and Palo Verde Street. Access to the self-storage facility can be made by taking Short Way north from 32nd Street, then proceeding west on 30th Street. This project will also include the replacement of the 24th Street pavement from Avenue 2½E to Avenue 3E.

Street Maintenance, Avenue 3E from 32nd Street to 40th Street

Starting July 6, the City's asphalt maintenance crew will be working on Avenue 3E between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Crews will start approximately 3 a.m. beginning with the southbound lanes.

32nd Street Traffic Signal Changes

City traffic signal personnel have altered traffic signals along 32nd Street from 4th Avenue Extension through Avenue A. This changes certain points during each traffic cycle in which left turns will be permitted. The most noticeable changes affect when left turn green arrows occur during each signal's cycle. Westbound 32nd Street motorists will now have "lagging left" turn arrows - meaning green arrows after solid green lights occur for westbound through traffic - at the intersections with 8th Avenue and 4th Avenue. Eastbound 32nd Street left turns will lag at Avenue A.

Also, some of the traffic signals will change left turns from "protected-permissive" (meaning left turns on solid green are allowed while yielding to oncoming through traffic) to "protected only" (meaning left turns are permitted only as indicated with a green arrow). This will happen on left turns from eastbound 32nd Street at 8th Avenue and at 4th Avenue Extension, and will happen on left turns from westbound 32nd Street at Avenue A.

The City asks motorists to pay close attention and take care when approaching each of these 32nd Street traffic signals in the upcoming weeks until they are used to the new cycles.

Avenue 6E Sewer Interceptor at 32nd Street

Avenue 6E is closed immediately south of 32nd Street for a sewer line interceptor project. Best north-south detour at this time would be Avenue 5E. Motorists can access the church on the corner by taking County 12th Street or City 40th Street and going north on 6E to the church parking lot.

40th Street Water Transmission Line, Avenue 3E to 6E

The intersection of 40th Street and Avenue 4E remains closed to all traffic as the water transmission line project progresses. 40th Street is closed between avenues 3-1/2E and 4E and east-west traffic should use either 32nd Street or County 13th Street.

16th Street Widening - ADOT Project

Work will be suspended Sunday and Monday for the Independence Day holiday. When work resumes Tuesday, crews will be erecting steel beams over the Union Pacific Railroad overpass on the north side of 16th Street, at which point traffic flows will shift from the north side of the street to the south side. Throughout the corridor, traffic along 16th Street remains restricted to one lane in each direction between Yuma Palms Parkway and Arizona Avenue. Please plan ahead to reach your 16th Street destination.

For more information, call the project hot line at 1-877-397-5202, e-mail 16thStreetWidening@azdot.gov or visit http://www.16thStreetWidening.com/ (This link will take you to an external website that is not part of the City of Yuma official website.)

24th Street at 6th Avenue - Southwest Gas

Southwest Gas has a one-day repair project scheduled before July 14 on 24th Street between 4th and 6th avenues. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and the western driveway of the Fry's grocery store will be restricted to "right in, right out" traffic.

Casa Manana Neighborhood Improvements

Work continues on Camino Alameda on the water line crossing near 24th Street. Access to the neighborhood can be made via Camino Barranca.

ADOT Announces No Closures Over Holiday Weekend

For drivers planning to head to the high country or travel elsewhere in Arizona over the Independence Day weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation will have no construction closures on state highways, including metro Phoenix freeways, over the extended holiday weekend from Friday through Monday (July 5).

Road conditions and up-to-date information about highway restrictions across the state can be found by dialing 511 or visiting ADOT's travel information site at http://www.az511.com/.

Avenue B to Avenue C, 1st Street to 8th Street Sewer Project - Yuma County

Work is under way on sewer lines in a general area between 1st and 8th streets and avenues B to C. Traffic control plans have been submitted indicating possible closures in the intersection of Avenue C and 5th Street July 1-15.
