Injury Collision At 8th Avenue And 23rd Street

On Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:17 pm, a Yuma Police Officer was engaged in an emergency response to a report of a possible assault to occur was involved in a collision at 8th Avenue and 23rd Street.
The initial investigation revealed the officer was northbound on 8th Avenue with lights and sirens engaged on his 2008 Ford Crown Victoria marked police car. The officer went left of center to pass other vehicles when a northbound 2007 Toyota SUV driven by an adult male attempted to left onto 23rd Street. The officer attempted to avoid the collision, but the vehicles collided. The officer then collided with a concrete retaining wall that belongs to Woodard Junior High School near the northwest corner of the intersection.
The officer was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center as a precaution and has been released. The other driver and passenger were uninjured.
The collision is under investigation and no citations have been issued.
