Road Report for February 25, 2010
Date:
02/25/2010Summary:
This week’s update of City of Yuma road construction projects.Contact:
16th Street Adding Concrete Barriers; Avenue A Surface Work
16th Street widening - ADOT
ADOT crews have placed temporary concrete barriers on the north side of 16th Street at the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge. These barriers are in place to allow crews room to begin the removal of the sidewalk along the roadway. This work will be conducted behind the temporary concrete barriers and is not expected to affect traffic. Pedestrians are directed to use the south side of 16th Street to travel through the construction area. Designated crosswalks are located at Arizona Avenue, Interstate 8, and Yuma Palms Parkway.
Beginning the week of March 1, crews will begin to mill and remove the existing northernmost westbound lane on 16th Street between Interstate 8 and Arizona Avenue. Removal of this lane is the next step toward widening the roadway. Once the lane is removed, crews will have more room to complete the installation of the new curb, gutter, sidewalk and roadway pavement.

Avenue A Widening
Surface work will take place on Avenue A over the next couple weeks. Temporary lane striping will take place to assist motorists with the new traffic patterns. Upcoming work will affect the intersections at 24th Street and at 16th Street; motorists should expect delays at these intersections in the upcoming weeks.
28th Street Between 4th And 1st Avenues
28th Street between 1st and 4th avenues will have some sewer line and service lateral work going on in the next several weeks. Best bet is to plan on detouring using either 24th Street or Catalina as a closure of 28th Street is likely during the various phases of this project.
County 12th Street/40th Street At Avenue 4-1/2E
In the first couple weeks of March, County 12th Street (also called City 40th Street) will be closed at Avenue 4-1/2E for sewer pipeline work. Detour using either 32nd Street or County 13th Street.
Casa Manana Improvements
The Casa Manana Neighborhood Reconstruction Project, in the area north of 24th Street between avenues A and B, consists of placing a storm drain system, removing and replacing the street lighting, removing the existing pavement and placing new pavement. Additionally, speed humps will be placed on Camino Alameda to mitigate existing problems with speeders.
Avenue 4E And 36th Street - APS
APS will be replacing poles and installing cables in the area of Avenue 4E and 36th Street some time between Feb. 15 and March 25. Some lane narrowing is possible on 4E.
1st Street - Southwest Gas
A major gas line project has been scheduled in the area of 1st Avenue and the avenues between 14th Avenue and Avenue B. Gas utility crews will be installing some main lines and services through the end of April in that region. Be prepared for some lane narrowing along 1st Street in the upcoming weeks.
Traveling? Keep this handy
With all the rain and mountain snow across the state the last several weeks, it pays to know what's going on before you travel. Road conditions and up-to-date information about highway restrictions can be found by dialing 511 or visiting ADOT's travel information site at http://www.az511.com/. Upcoming Projects
40th Street Water Transmission Line, Phase 2
This project will involve installation of approximately 15,760 linear feet of 30-inch water transmission line under 40th Street between Avenue 6E and Avenue 3E, including tie-ins or stub-outs to major water distribution lines every half-mile. This line will complete construction of major facilities needed to provide adequate water supply from the Agua Viva Water Treatment Plant to the City's service area east of Avenue 3E.
