Pedestrian Shift On 16th Street; 12th Street to Re-Open; Paving Progress On Avenue A

16th Street Widening - Traffic Control Shift

At this stage in construction, all pedestrian traffic is being directed to the south side of 16th Street.  Work is underway on the north side of 16th Street which is closed to pedestrians.  Please use extra caution while traveling through the construction zone.

There are currently no left turns permitted onto Riley Avenue from 16th Street.

  • Eastbound traffic wishing to access the Golden Corral, Blimpie Sub Shop, Chevron Gas Station, or Texas Roadhouse are encouraged to turn left on Arizona Avenue and use the back access road.
  • Westbound traffic wishing to access the Super 8 Hotel, Comfort Inn Hotel, IHOP, or Burger King are encouraged to turn left on Arizona Avenue and use 17th Street to access these businesses.
  • Left turns will still be allowed from 16th Street onto both northbound and southbound Arizona Avenue.

For more information, call the project hot line at 1-877-397-5202, e-mail 16thStreetWidening@azdot.gov or visit http://www.16thStreetWidening.com/ (This link will take you to an external website that is not part of the City of Yuma official website.)

Avenue A Widening

Paving between 20th Place and 24th Street, though delayed due to rain, was scheduled to continue through week's end. The traffic control pattern for Avenue A north of 24th Street is scheduled to shift starting as early as Monday into center lanes. Crews will also be working on finishing curbs and possibly stamp concrete in areas where medians will be placed.

12th Street Between Avenue C And 42nd Drive

12th Street between Avenue C and 42nd Drive is scheduled to be paved on Friday and reopened to through traffic by Friday evening. Crews made repairs to the roadway due to a sinkhole believed to be related to the January storms.

Casa Manana Improvements

The Casa Manana Neighborhood Reconstruction Project consists of placing a storm drain system, removing and replacing the street lighting, removing the existing pavement and placing new pavement. Additionally, speed humps will be placed on Camino Alameda to mitigate existing problems with speeders.

Avenue 4E And 36th Street - APS

APS will be replacing poles and installing cables in the area of Avenue 4E and 36th Street some time between Feb. 15 and March 25. Some lane narrowing is possible on 4E.

32nd Street And East Main Canal - Qwest

Qwest work will result in a brief closure of the right westbound lane of 32nd Street in the vicinity of the East Main Canal (between avenues A and B) for approximately one month.

1st Street - Southwest Gas

A major gas line project has been scheduled in the area of 1st Avenue and the avenues between 14th Avenue and Avenue B. Gas utility crews will be installing some main lines and services through the end of April in that region. Be prepared for some lane narrowing along 1st Street in the upcoming weeks.

Traveling? Keep This handy

With all the rain and mountain snow across the state the last several weeks, it pays to know what's going on before you travel. Road conditions and up-to-date information about highway restrictions can be found by dialing 511 or visiting ADOT's travel information site at http://www.az511.com/. Upcoming Projects

40th Street Water Transmission Line, Phase 2

This project will involve installation of approximately 15,760 linear feet of 30-inch water transmission line under 40th Street between Avenue 6E and Avenue 3E, including tie-ins or stub-outs to major water distribution lines every half-mile.  This line will complete construction of major facilities needed to provide adequate water supply from the Agua Viva Water Treatment Plant to the City's service area east of Avenue 3E.
