Great Yuma Road Race

Race in front of a real Olympic-style audience! The Great Yuma Road Race which starts just before the Rodeo Parade and follows the route down 4th Avenue will take place at 8:15 a.m. sharp on Saturday, Feb. 13.  The first 200 people registered will receive a free T-shirt.  The cost is $12 in advance and $14 on site.  For more information, call 373-5243.

Roxaboxen Festival

Join us 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 for the enchanting children’s delight, the annual "Roxaboxen Festival" at Roxaboxen Park, located at 8th Street and 2nd Avenue.  The festival celebrates the wonderful book of the same name by Alice McLarren. She writes about the joy of play and having fun in the outdoors using imagination.  This year, children will be building and decorating their own Roxaboxen town.  Cost is just $2 per child and that’s to cover some of the materials.  For more information, call 373-5202.

More Shade Coming To Sanguinetti

Parks and Recreation is installing a shade structure for the large playground located at Sanguinetti Memorial Park, 22nd Street and 8th Avenue. There will be no access to the playground during construction, which is anticipated to be complete on or about Feb. 27.

This will bring the total number of shade-covered City playground structures to 10, and parents are encouraged to take their children to a City park. "Incorporating daily activity and exercise is important for both adults and children. Providing protected play spaces within our community provides an extra layer of safety," said Yuma Parks and Recreation Director Becky Chavez.

Yuma Youth Fast Pitch And T-Ball

The Yuma Youth Fast Pitch and T-Ball League is taking registration for their spring league.  YYFTL is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 6, and girls ages 7 to 14.  The registration takes place at the Parks & Recreation Office at City Hall.  Registration ends on March 4 with games to be played April through June.

"Reading Rocks" Book Fair To Benefit Art Center

The Yuma Art Center and Barnes & Noble Booksellers will sponsor the "Reading Books" Book Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Barnes & Noble, 819 W. 32nd St.  A percentage of the sales made during the book fair will be donated to the Yuma Art Center. Puppet shows will be presented throughout the day and kids can make their own puppets to take home. Please come and show your support for the arts in Yuma. For more information, call 373-5202.

Spring Softball Registration

Calling all softball fanatics!  Registration for the spring men’s and women’s leagues is now open.  The games are scheduled to begin March 15 and continue through June 4.  The cost is $325 per team, plus $23 annual A.S.A. sanctioning fee.  Registration will remain open until March 4 or until leagues fill.
