This weekend resulted in a series of unusual responses for the Yuma Fire Department.

  • On Friday February 5th at  about 4:00 pm YFD units responded to a two year old with their head stuck in an end table, a few minutes later, at about 4:15 pm they responded to a traffic crash with a rolled over semi-truck on County 40th St. near Ave. 5E.
  • At about 6:00 pm YFD responded to two vehicles that struck a house at 2696 S. 18th Ave. Besides tending to the injured, YFD’s technical rescue personnel shored up/stabilized damaged sections of the house that allowed the damaged vehicles to be removed.
  • On Saturday February 6th, at about 1:45 am units responded to a trailer fire at 466 S. Magnolia Ave. Firefighters found a trailer with smoke and flames coming from it. The fire was extinguished with significant damage to the interior. No one was home, and there were no injuries.
  • On Sunday February 7th, at about 2:00 pm YFD responded to a report of a man trapped in a palm tree at 1651 S. 6th Ave. The male was trimming the tree when he became entangled in his harness. YFD technical rescue team members rescued him from the tree in winds gusting between 20-30 mph. The man was not injured.
  • At about 2:40 pm firefighters extinguished a mattress fire in the 1000 block of Magnolia Ave. started by a 5 year old playing with matches. Later in the evening, at about 8:30 pm, firefighters responded to a traffic accident again involving a vehicle striking a house. This occurred at 2741 S. Olivia Ave. The vehicle had 4 occupants and all refused treatment.
