Voters Will Decide Whether Or Not To Amend Local Preference Section In Charter

Yuma, Arizona - Yumans are invited to file arguments within the next two weeks regarding a local preference issue coming before City of Yuma voters this spring.

Qualified electors will decide May 18, 2010 whether or not to amend the section of Yuma's City Charter regarding use of local preference (Article XII, Section 2) in awarding bids for City contracts.

Arguments pro and con will be published in the publicity pamphlet, which is typically mailed in advance of the election to all households containing registered voters.

To File An Argument

  • Keep it within 300 words or less.
  • Argument must be signed and notarized.  If an organization is filing the argument, two officers from the organization must sign and have it be notarized.
  • Submit it in person to the Yuma City Clerk's Office, on the third floor west wing of City Hall, One City Plaza, along with $300 in cash or check to cover some of the cost of printing, as per state law.
  • Deadline is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010.  Absolutely no arguments will be accepted after that exact time, per state law.

The City Clerk's Office is open 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 (closed Friday, Feb. 5 per the City's customer convenience schedule).
