Crews To Shut Down Northbound Lane North Of 16th Street On Thursday, Southbound Lane Next Tuesday

Yuma, Arizona -  Due to recent storms, crews will need to work on Arizona Avenue just north of 16th Street in upcoming days, resulting in lane closures.

Northbound Arizona Avenue will be closed north of 16th Street on Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Crews will apply a new oil coat to the surface.  Northbound traffic should detour using 1st Avenue.

Then on Tuesday, Feb. 9, crews will perform the same type of work on the southbound lane of Arizona Avenue approaching 16th Street from the north. Southbound traffic should detour using either 10th Street or 12th Street and either 1st Avenue or 4th Avenue.

"The rains we received a couple weeks ago caused some minor problems with the new surface course they placed," said Jay Simonton, Capital Improvement Program Project Manager with the City of Yuma. "With the cooler weather, the asphalt had not had enough time to cure properly. This seal coat is a preventative measure to minimize any future problems."

The closures are expected to be one day only on the scheduled days, barring any unforeseen weather events.
