On Monday February 1, 2010 at 1:05 am, a house fire was reported in the 200 block of West 21st Street. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found the house at 225 West 21st St. to be fully involved with heavy flames and smoke coming from the home, a motor home in the driveway was also on fire, and flames had spread to the roof of the residence at 235 West 21st St. Firefighters were able to knock down the fires in approximately 20 minutes and bring them under control.

Both houses and the motor home had been occupied at the time the fire was discovered. An adult female and two children were in the home at 225 W. 21st St., an adult female and one child were in the motor home, and two adults and four children were in the second home. All evacuated safely and no fire related injuries were reported.

The house at 225 W. 21st St. sustained heavy damage to the building and contents, and the motor home was also heavily damaged. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist occupants of the house and motor home. The fire in the second home was stopped before it could spread to the interior, and the residents were able to reoccupy the home.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours checking for hot shots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
