On Thursday, January 28th, 2010, at 1931 hrs, Yuma Police Department responded to the area of 16th Street and 44th Avenue after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting multiple gunshots heard.
Preliminary investigation shows no one was injured in the shooting; however, multiple rounds hit two vehicles parked in front of a residence in the 4400 block W. 15th Place. There was a 10 year old boy playing basketball near the two vehicles that were struck by gunfire but it does not appear at this time that the boy was the intended target.
According to witnesses, after the gunshots were fired, a 1999 -2001 red Honda Accord 2DSD was seen leaving area northbound on 44th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
