On Friday, January 15, 2010 at 8:27 am, Yuma Police Officers responded to the 2400 block alley east of Melody Lane, near 24th Street in reference to a suspicious military container.Contact:
On Friday, January 15, 2010 at 8:27 am, Yuma Police Officers responded to the 2400 block alley east of Melody Lane, near 24th Street in reference to a suspicious military container.
Officers located the sealed cylinder type container, which was about two feet long and had the words “Military Explosives” stenciled on it. Officers evacuated the areas east and west of the area that included portions of Sierra Vista Avenue, Lori Lane and the Melody Mobile Home Park as a precaution.
Members of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Regional Bomb Squad and MCAS Yuma Provost Marshall’s Office responded to assist.
At 9:47 am, the container was identified as an empty carrying case with no explosive materials inside. The container was turned over to the Provost Marshall’s Office.
