The New Year’s Resolution for 5K/10K runners and fun walkers is the second of five runs counting toward point totals for area runners.  Over 120 runners ranging in age from 6 to 89 hit the course on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at West Wetlands Park.  Walkers also enjoyed a brisk fun walk.

Runners were broken up into male and female categories by age group: 9 and under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80+. Medallions were awarded to gold, silver and bronze winners in each age group.

About The Series

At the end of the five-run-series, individuals with the highest number of points in each age bracket (the winner must have participated in more than one race) will receive a plaque and every fun walker that has participated in all five events also receives a plaque.  At each event the first place finisher receives 20 points, second place receives 15 points, third place receives 10 points and the remaining participants receive five points. 

There are a total of five races in the series:

  • November 14, 2009: Turkey Trot - COMPLETED
  • December 5, 2009: Reindeer Round-Up - begins at West Wetlands Park - COMPLETED 
  • January 9, 2010: New Year's Resolution Run - begins at West Wetlands Park - COMPLETED
  • February 13, 2010: Great Yuma Road Race - begins at the corner of 4th Avenue and 16th Street
  • March 13, 2010: March On - begins at West Wetlands Park

Register For Future Races

Registration for any or all of the future 5K and 10K runs in the series is available online at www.yumaaz.gov/parksandrec, by phone at 373-5243 or in person at the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall. You can also register on site on the day of the run. Pre-registration is $8 and on-site registration is $10.
