Resolution for Safety

The Yuma Fire Department has responded to more than 11,000 emergency calls for service so far during 2009. Many of these calls were for preventable accidents and injuries. For 2010, make a “Resolution for Safety” and think about what you can do to make the coming year a safer one for you and your family.  Preventable injuries occur on the street, at home, and at work.

Here are a few safety resolutions to consider for 2010!

  • Being patient, allowing extra time when driving, and planning your route to avoid congestion can help you avoid traffic related accidents.
  • Avoid leaving cooking food unattended, keeping matches and lighters out of reach of children, and never leaving an unattended candle burning, are just three of many ways to reduce your fire risk at home.
  • Learning CPR and Basic First Aid, preparing a 72-hour emergency kit, having and practicing emergency plans in your home or at work, can better prepare you should an personal, family, or community emergency or disaster should occur.
  • Oh, and lets not forget, firearms are not toys and noisemakers for celebrating the New Year. Using firearms to “ring” in the New Year is not only a serious crime, it is also dangerous.

The Yuma Fire Department wants you to have a safe and Happy New Year!!!!!!
