Fatality Traffic Collision Intersection of County 16 Street and Avenue 3 East

On Sunday, December 27th, 2009, at 1555 hrs, Yuma Police Department and Yuma County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the intersection of County 16 Street and Avenue 3 East for a report of an injury traffic collision.

On Sunday, December 27th, 2009, at 1555 hrs, Yuma Police Department and Yuma County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the intersection of County 16 Street and Avenue 3 East for a report of an injury traffic collision.

Preliminary investigation shows a white 2002 Cadillac being driven by a 76 yr old male, failed to yield the right-a-way while driving eastbound on County 16th Street and was struck by an agricultural produce truck being driven by a 23 yr old male, who was driving northbound on Avenue 3 East.  

The driver and the front seat passenger in the Cadillac, a 79 yr old female, were extricated from the vehicle by Yuma Fire Department and MCAS Fire Department personnel and transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center.  The female later succumbs to her injuries at YRMC. The male was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, for severe head injuries. The driver of the agricultural produce truck was not injured.

Names are not being released until notifications to the next of kin are completed.
