8,200 Ballots Processed; Write-Ins Still To Come

Yuma, Arizona - Additional results from the City of Yuma's 2009 general election were released Thursday.

The current count reflects 8,200 ballots cast, including early ballots that have been processed and counted and results from all of the 16 precincts. "Write-in" votes still need to be verified and hand-tallied; these are expected to be released on Friday to provide a final, unofficial total. However, the write-in tally is not expected to change the outcome.

Percentages reflect a percentage of the total number of ballots cast, rather than a percentage of the total number of votes cast, because Yuma City Council seats are considered at-large, and each ballot may contain up to three votes for members of the City Council.

The election results will not be considered official until they have been canvassed by the Yuma City Council, most likely at its regularly scheduled Nov. 18 meeting.
