On Thursday October 29, 2009, shortly before 7:00 am Yuma Fire Department and Yuma Police Department personnel were called to the Area of the West Main Canal, just East of Avenue B, regarding a vehicle submerged in the canal.

First arriving units found a full sized van with only portions of the very top of the roof still visible. YFD Dive Team members also arrived on the scene, suiting up and entering the water to determine if the van was occupied. An underwater examination of the vehicle found it to be unoccupied.

The Yuma Police Department is investigating the circumstances which lead to the vehicle being in the canal, and whereabouts of those involved. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Yuma Police Department at 373-4700.
