On Thursday October 15, 2009 shortly after 7:00 pm an explosion was reported in the 1300 block of South Apache Lane. Arriving YFD units found the residence at 1327 South Apache Lane to have been blown apart by an explosion. There was no fire but debris was scattered over the lot and into the street.

An adult male resident was inside the home when it exploded, but was not injured. An adult female resident was in the backyard and was also not injured. Fire investigation and building inspection personnel were called to the scene. The American Red Cross was also called to assist the residents with finding lodging.

At 9:40 pm, while firefighters were still on scene, a fire ignited in the rubble of the building. Additional firefighters were called to the scene and the fire was extinguished. Firefighting efforts were complicated by the unstable remains of the structure. Hot spots and flare ups were being taken care of late into the evening. The cause of the explosion, and later fire, are under investigation.
