Pond Temporarily Closed In Preperation Of Fishing Event Saturday

Yuma, Arizona - The Fishing Pond at the Yuma West Wetlands will be closed for fishing on Thursday and Friday, October 15th and 16th.

The pond is being stocked with tagged fish in preparation of the Yuma Optimist Club's Catfish Rodeo that will take place on Saturday, October 17th. Fishing at the Annual Catfish Rodeo will begin at 7:00 a.m. Saturday and wind up by 10:00 a.m. Other events are scheduled to continue from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

"This is a fantastic event that the Optimst Club is able to put on each year for the future fishermen in the Yuma community", said Greg Hyland, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the City of Yuma. "Everyone needs to have the opportunity to learn how to fish, and to land the big one; no matter where they live. Yuma has great fishing opportunities and this gives our kids a chance to get started right here in one of our premier parks."

The Catfish Rodeo is sponsored by the Yuma Optimist Club, the City of Yuma, Arizona Game and Fish, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It is because of these ongoing partnerships that this event is able to take place each year.

For further information please contact Greg Hyland, CPM, the City's Director of Communications and Public Affairs at (928) 373-5023 or Dave Nash, City of Yuma Public Affairs Coordinator at (928) 373-5015.
